AMAN Kohala Preserve

The strategy for the Halawa territory is based on understanding firsthand the tremendous bounty of the land, the incredible resilience of the native peoples, and the opportunities these two provide to create a series of sustainable outcomes. These outcomes will be capable of embracing the multi- dimensional aspects of the Hawaiian peoples, their land, their heritage and history, and the great turning or moving forward of ideas which in essence reflects a desire to launch a strategy capable of embracing all aspects of nature and culture of this incredible landscape. The connections from the mountains (Mauka) to the sea (Makai) are connections which at one time represented part of the daily movements of native Hawaiians. It is on this Mauka / Makai connection where life unfolded in symbiosis and continuously as mother earth created new land from its womb.
